Robert J. Handy & WSSR Foundation

The Washington State School Retirees' Association (WSSRA) invites high school seniors who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply for the Robert J. Handy and WSSR Foundation scholarships.  These awards are given to students who plan to have a career in the “field of education”.

Statewide sixteen (16) WSSR – Foundation Scholarships and sixteen (16)  PEMCO/ Robert J. Handy Scholarships will be awarded to students whose degree would be in one of these areas: teacher, counselor, speech therapist, occupational therapist, or psychologist.For the WSSR-Foundation, one $2,500 award and one $1,500 award will be granted in each of the eight WSSRA regions.  For Handy, two $900 scholarships (redeemable for four years) will be awarded in each of the eight WSSRA regions.

WSSRA conducts the search and review process and selects the recipients.  Applicants will be notified by May 13, 2022, if they have been chosen. 

The scholarship application must be filled-out online, printed and mailed to WSSRA, PO Box 5127, Lacey, WA 98509 For an application to be considered it must be in approved form, with directions followed precisely and mailed and postmarked by March 1, 2022.

Neil D Prescott-Student Teaching / Internship Scholarship

WSSRA invites prospective teachers in their last year of college preparation to apply for the Neil D. Prescott Scholarship. This (one-time $2000) scholarship is awarded to students who will be student teaching or conducting an internship for the 2022-2023 academic year. Sixteen scholarships (two in each of the eight WSSRA regions) will be awarded.

The Washington State School Retirees Association is offering two (2) one-time scholarships for $2,000 in each of its eight regions in the state (the high school of attendance will be in one of those regions). Additionally, in each region, there are local units of WSSRA that may also elect to award scholarships to the applicants in the applicant pool that is collected and ranked in April. 

Applicants Must:

  • Have graduated from a Washington State high school and presently enrolled in a college of education, anywhere, pursuing a career in a field of education; or
  • If a Washington State resident who graduated from a Department of Defense high school and presently enrolled in a college of education, anywhere, pursuing a career in a field of education; or
  • Presently pursuing a Masters-In-Teaching Certificate (click link to the right for the guidlines); and Profess a plan to apply for employment with a school district(s) within Washington State.
     

Student teaching or internship must be conducted during the 2022-23 academic year
 

WSSRA conducts the search and review process and selects the recipients. Applicants will be notified by May 13, 2022, if they have been chosen. Please encourage your outstanding students who are committed to a career in the field of education to apply.

Gene Forrester Memorial Scholarship

WSSRA invites high school seniors who plan to major in Agricultural Education at Washington State University to apply for the (one time $2000) Gene Forrester Memorial Scholarship. 

Two (2) Gene Forrester Memorial Scholarships - $2000 each

The Washington State School Retirees' Association (WSSRA) invites senior students of your school who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply for the above scholarships. These awards are given to students who plan to have a career in the “field of education”.

Two (2) Gene Forrester Memorial Scholarships will be awarded to students who will major in Agricultural Education at Washington State University.

WSSRA conducts the search and review process and selects the recipients. Applicants will be notified by May 13, 2022, if they have been chosen. Please encourage your outstanding students who are committed to a career in the field of education to apply.
