WSSRA will provide leadership and promote action relevant to all retired and active school personnel

In order to achieve this vision, WSSRA is determined to:

  • Develop, propose, and implement action that will benefit all school retirees
  • To propose legislation and legislative action that will enhance school retirees’ lives
  • To provide the support necessary to strengthen local units of WSSRA
  • To foster involvement by school retirees in educational and community activities and organizations
  • To represent all present and future Washington State School Retirees both classified and certificated

Strategic Plan

WSSRA will improve the general welfare of our members/communities by the actions of our organization. We will gather information to determine the needs of the membership. Identify and distribute appropriate information to members.

WSSRA will protect and improve our health benefits and pension system. We will interact with and educate our legislators. Our association will initiate and advocate legislation and provide information on the website and legislative hotline on important legislative issues.

WSSRA will provide social and individual opportunities for growth. We will promote social activities and programs that foster individual growth. We will make it a priority to recognize the achievements of our members.

WSSRA will increase effectiveness as a professional association by increasing membership and collaborative activities. We will strengthen membership by recruiting active members and challenge each member to be a recruiter. The association will identify and train a cadre to assist units in recruiting.

WSSRA will improve communication with its membership and the general public. We expect to expand WSSRA news bureau, encourage publication and exchange of local newsletters, and enhance The Journal. WRSSA will ensure timeliness of website information, constantly re-evaluate content and format of The Journal, expand circulation of the Legislative Insight and investigate the use of electronic media communication. It is our goal to publish The Journal six times annually.

WSSRA will initiate and support leadership activities and training. We will sponsor leadership training, urge local units to fill all local offices, and encourage and train leadership at all levels.

WSSRA will show our support for public education. We will disseminate information and support levies, provide scholarships and grants to active and future school employees, and encourage our members to volunteer. We will make it a priority to take a more active role in state and local educational issues.

WSSRA will be a fiscally responsible organization. We will examine annually the WSSRA structure and programs to ensure organizational and membership needs are being met and conduct association business in an efficient and accountable manner.
