WSSRA Board Announces Two Segment 2021 Convention

April 14, 2021

WSSRA Unit Presidents, Coordinating Council Chairs, Statewide Committee Members, and Board Members--

In planning the 2021 convention with COVID still a factor, the Executive Board at their meeting this morning approved a plan to split the event into two segments:

1.     A June 9, 1:00 pm virtual business meeting that will include an announcement of 2021-22 statewide election results (for President-elect, District Reps in NW 2 and E 7, and the eastside WSSR-Foundation Trustee), approval of the 2021-22 budget, and Delegate Assembly (proposed bylaw changes). Like last year, elections, budget, and bylaw voting will take place in May through hard copy ballots mailed to chosen convention delegates. Those ballots will be returned to the Lacey office for counting. Instructions on naming delegates was sent to unit presidents via US mail this afternoon.

2.     An on-site convention October 4 – 6 at the Pasco Red Lion with organizational awards, scholarship recognition, a sneak preview of the 2022 Grand Mound convention, a Celebration of Life, and training (including keynotes, breakout sessions and leadership training on Wednesday morning).

This schedule will allow us to have our 2021-22 leadership team in place by July 1, include revised bylaws in the 2021-22 handbook, and still convene on-site in October. To be sure, the October event will be subject to the lifting of COVID restrictions based on vaccine effectiveness, the reduction in new cases, and hotel restrictions. Plans are in the works to offer Zoom connections to important convention events for those who cannot attend live. A final go/no-go decision for the on-site October convention will be made by mid-summer. At this point we do not recommend making hotel reservations.
